This is very simple. If you've never done it before, you'll be impressed.
The only caution is to ensure you are importing the "events" into the proper calendar.

This step is only required if you've never imported a work schedule into iCal before.
One thing that makes iCal extremely useful is the ability to have multiple calendars so that different type of events can be on kept separate for organizational purposes, but visible at the same time as other type of events to better identify conflicts or available time.
Before importing events (work schedule), it is important that the calendar already exists to import the events into.
To create a calendar in iCal, click the "+" symbol (shown) and follow the prompts.
Groups of calendars are allowed (as can be seen by my "Sched Planning" group in the screen capture).
